About Manitoba

The Province of Manitoba, founded in 1870 is known for its gorgeous prairie sunsets, lush forests, and scenic landscape. Manitobans experience, on average, 325 days of sunshine annually making summer a popular time to explore.

Numerous beaches surrounding Winnipeg are packed every day in the summer months. Sunseekers can experience open waters on the two big freshwater lakes stretching through the province, creating several provincial parks and endless seasonal camping communities. Many small towns along these lakes are often called “cottage country.” Manitoba favours outdoor activities such as fishing, boating, snowmobiling, hunting, golfing, cricket, and much more!

Fun fact: Manitobans call jelly filled donuts "jambusters"! From Googs to Booters, check out more Manitoban lingo here.

Manitoba is known for its cultural diversity, with a vibrant mix of ethnic communities. The province celebrates various cultural events and festivals throughout the year, highlighting its multicultural fabric. Folklorama, a multicultural event that runs for two weeks each August in Winnipeg, Manitoba’s capital city, is the world's largest and longest-running multicultural festival.

The economy is diverse and includes sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, mining, hydroelectric power generation, and transportation. The province has a relatively low unemployment rate compared to the national average.

The cost of living in Manitoba is generally lower compared to larger Canadian cities like Toronto or Vancouver. Housing, transportation, and daily expenses tend to be more affordable, but costs can still vary depending on the location and lifestyle choices.

Immigration to Manitoba:

Manitoba operates its own immigration program called the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP). It is designed to attract and nominate skilled workers, businesspeople, and their families who wish to settle in the province. Over 164,000 permanent residents declared Manitoba as their intended destination in Canada from 2011 to 2021.
